Hibernation?

Some say that riding season ends when October ends. At least in northern hemisphere. And everything gets back by March or about. Well, this "winter" season I don't really agree, as I managed to do some great rides by mid November (8th), New Year Day, and also mid January! Sure, there isn't loads of snow or something, but surely temperature isn't one of those melting the tires and leading to a great grip. So in mid November I did a classic one, a four passes loop (about 300km) that I really love: -Passo Rolle -Passo Valles -Passo San Pellegrino -Passo Manghen The latter was closed, or kind of. On the north side, from where I was approaching, I find the road closed. These roads often close in winter, as they are not maintained and the snow doesn't get removed, so they simply close it the whole autumn-winter time. Other bikes stopped and turned back... I simply avoided the barrier and continued, without traffic... just to find out that on top there was people (and bikes)... coming from south (which was open). I was kinda worried as I couldn't fill up before doing the pass, and if it was closed on the southern way down I wouldn't have enjoyed the day so much! But everything turned out ok, and the day has been great!

Alcuni dicono che la stagione delle moto finisce a fine ottobre. Almeno nell'emisfero nord. E poi si ricomincia a Marzo o giù di lì. Ma per quanto riguarda questa stagione invernale non sono proprio d'accordo, in quanto ho fatto dei bei giri sia a metà Novembre (l'8), il primo dell'anno e pure a metà Gennaio| Certo, non c'è neve, ma di sicuro le temperature non sono quelle che fanno pensare al grip delle gomme. A metà Novembre mi sono fatto un giretto classico, un loop di 4 passi (circa 300km) che mi piace molto: -Passo Rolle -Passo Valles -Passo San Pellegrino -Passo Manghen Il Manghen era chiuso, più o meno. Da nord, ovvero da dove venivo io, c'era la sbarra che chiudeva la strada. Strade come queste vengono chiuse tutto l'inverno in quanto non sono soggette a manutenzione, e quindi nessuno andrebbe a spalare la neve (quando arriva)... quindi le chiudono per precauzione. Altre moto si sono fermate alla sbarra... ma io l'ho aggirata e sono salito in vetta senza trovare traffico... incontrandomi con altra gente (specialmente moto) proprio sopra il passo, indicando che il versante sud era aperto e transitabile. Confesso che ero un po' preoccupato: non ero riuscito a fare rifornimento prima del passo, e se il versante sud fosse stato chiuso da qualche parte, avrei avuto un grave problema che mi rovinava la giornata. Ma è andato tutto bene, grande giornata!

On new year day, I was supposed to be elsewhere, but in the end I found myself at home. And there was the sun outside. So, isn't it great to start the new year with a ride? That's what I did!!

Il primo dell'anno avrei dovuto essere altrove. Però alla fine mi sono ritrovato a casa... e c'era il sole. Quale miglior inizio di anno se non con un giretto in moto?

And since it's not snowing hard yet, I managed a mid January ride too. No snow means I went seeking it, and I even managed to lowside the bike (at almost no speed, between my leg... that damn white spot didn't feel so slippery when I rode up ... but downhill it managed to be killer! But I survived that too... but it's time for a service and some other tunes to be done... so probably I'll be back in March, like everybody else... but my hibernation will be something not longer than one month!

E considerando non nevica, e le strade sono asciutte, mi sono pure fatto un giro a metà Gennaio! Il fatto che non nevichi significa che sono proprio andato a cercarmela ...la neve... tanto che sono pure riuscito a stendere la moto (praticamente da fermo, mi è caduta tra le gambe): quella vasta chiazza bianca non sembrava così scivolosa in salita... ma in discesa è stata letale! Ma ne sono uscito comunque... ora è tempo del tagliando ed altri lavoretti, quindi credo tornerò in sella a Marzo, come tutti gli altri... ma il mio letargo non sarà durato più di un mese!
