Just an excuse

Recently, during a ride, my bike ran low of fuel. A normal thing when you push it hard across the mountains for several kilometers during the day. What you get is a light on the dashboard... you know it's running low, you turn the petcock to 'RES' and stop to the next gas station. All fine, all quite common... but I had to guess the fuel level (which I can do easily reading the kilometers on the trip counter)... as the fuel light simply didn't worked. Well, the light worked but the fuel level indicator switch simply said it was too old. A whole life sunk into 100 octanes fuel... poor dude.
So I ordered it as Suzuki, got it, replaced it and the problem was solved.
But we are motorcycles riders, aren't we? Any minor work on the bike, including lubing the chain or adding coolant to the coolant reservoir, is a good EXCUSE to do a test ride! What if the switch was badly connected? Or badly sealed causing a fuel leak? A good 100km test ride up the mountain, attacking corners like no tomorrow is, without doubt, a perfect and much needed test ride, isn't it?
If you read this blog, much probably you do agree with me and maybe suggest that a 400km ride was a better test to be done! I cannot disagree!
The mighty Monte Grappa has been the road of my test... and up there (some 1800mt) I could enjoy a much fresher air, a very nice cure-all to have after the climb up high pace riding sweat!
