OK, the Autumnal equinox happens around the 23rd September in this 2026... but, well, the Sunday 20th is the equinox weekend. We cannote deny this. So, to celebrate the change of season I had a ride. My plan was to wake up early and leave, but the Saturday has been heavy: 500 km driving and the Norton ManX R test ride (will post about this topic)... so, in the end, I rode off at 11:00AM today. Not early at all. The plan? A revenge. Back un June, I wanted to do the immortal trinity: Tonale, Stelvio and Gavia passes. But my bike broke down at beginning of Gavia. You know the story (or read it!) So I had to close the circle. I needed my revenge. That happend TODAY. With a wonderful weather! I was screaming inside the helmet when I passed the June break down point. And I was scraeming even louder enjoyng the Gavia pass scenery, one of the places I love the most. In the end, 550 km ridden. Passes: Tonale, Gavia, Stelvio and Palade. 8 hours riding time! WOW! What a lovely sunday! Photos? Perhaps too many! |
Passi: Tonale, Gavia, Stelvio e Palade. 8 ore di guida! WOW! Che domenica meravigliosa! Foto? Forse troppe! |

Back on the hunt for Dolomite passes
|
One Saturday afternoon, the sky was stunning, painted with clouds. I set off around 4 pm: Duran Pass, then the enjoyable Staulanza Pass, on towards Giau Pass, followed by Falzarego, with the inevitable detour to the beautiful moon-landscape of Valparola Pass.
I descend along a few bends on the north-facing side before turning back to complete the Falzarego. Given the time, I don’t miss the chance to climb up to the Fedaia Pass to enjoy the sunset up there, taking in the view of the lake and (what remains of) the glacier. I am back home after 9 pm, it' dark... but my mind is still illuminated by these landscapes; I've seen them many times, I've ridden there many times, but I still find thrilling and enchanting being there every single time. (more than 300km ride) |
Running away from the rain, across 7 passes
|
Weather is nice, but being so close to the mountains, a shower —or better yet, a thunderstorm— is always just around the corner. So I ended up riding 300 km... trying to outrun the rain. It literally followed me. I got caught in a shower on Aune Pass, but nothing serious. The next six passes (Rolle, Valles, San Pellegrino, Costalunga, Lavazé & Manghen) were dry on dry roads! What a blast! At home? Puddles everywhere! I’ve won! And the day after, on a leisurely ride to Monte Grappa, I set off in almost pouring rain... but I got lucky: dry roads and plenty of fun! Enjoy the photos! |
A casa? Pozzanghere ovunque! Ho vinto io! |

Foliage. My way.
|
Foliage comes from the French word “feuillage”, which literally means ‘foliage’ but which, in its meaning related to tourism, refers to “fall foliage” (i.e., autumn foliage) and therefore also to the autumn landscape, hence linked to that extraordinary explosion of colors that marks the end of the annual life cycle of forest plants. Obviously, this trend has become a real craze: people travel specifically to see the foliage, cameras and smartphones capture these scenes at all hours of the day and in all lighting conditions, while social networks are literally flooded with thousands of images—some more beautiful than others—of this wonderful spectacle of nature. So... could I stay out of this new craze? Here is my version of the ‘Foliage’ trend! |

A Free Saturday: mountains, twisties, colors and SUN!
|
A miracle! A planetary alignment! A Saturday that should have been spent at home, working on modifications to the heating system (Winter is coming...!), all of a sudden became FREE. This is thanks to my two buddies from the motorcycle club: they helped me out on Friday (we had planned two days of work), but by 6 p.m. on the first day we were done! And what can I do when, all of a sudden, I find myself with a free Saturday, brilliant weather, and a perfect temperature? Well, if you’re reading this blog, you already know the answer! It turned out to be a 230 km ride across four passes: Cereda — a fast one despite some wet spots — Valles and Rolle (I usually ride them the other way around, so this was a fun variation on the theme), and finally Passo Crode d’Aune. Not a bad way to work on your home’s heating system! After all, I did the same thing: I converted a hell of a lot of fuel into energy! Isn’t that what any heating system does? For your immense pleasure, here are some photos... with those autumn views and colors: |

'80 '90 SPORTBIKES REUNION, September 2025
|
I belong to more than one motorcycle club. One of these, Cilindri Storici, is about vintage motorcycles. The years go by, and you don't need spoked wheels or a dual shock absorber on the rear to be vintage. Many sport bikes with beautiful wraparound fairings are now vintage... a time when the passion for speed and lean angles was far greater than today. It was the '90s, and the following decade as well, superbikes were within reach of many, and the performance challenge was a no-holds-barred competition. I participated last year for the first time... and this year I returned: meeting, motorcycle tour, and lunch! Here's the video of the departure from the meeting point: |

Dry!
|
After all the rain I caught on the last ride, I bought a new rain gear; the one I had was worn and well, not protecting me any longer. I binned it in some gas station up north. But I didn't use it (yet) and two days after the Stelvio ride, I found myself with a free and (most important thing) dry day (yeah!)... so off I rode, what else? I wanted corners, I wanted lean angles (well, I ALWAYS want stuff like that!), so I pointed the bow towards the mountains: I hadn't a plan, but it took me no time to find out one. So, Passo Croce d’Aune, just because the upcoming hill climb race offered me freshly painted racetrack curbs. Then Passo Cereda, a set of corners letting you use the edges of the tires, then F.lla Aurine, Passo Duran, then the fabulous Passo Staulanza. From here Passo Giau, they recently increased the speed limits... so I may have avoided any speeding ticket... and finally leading south via Cortina d'Ampezzo, Pieve di Cadore and Longarone. 314km! And a lot of fun! |
314 km! E tanto divertimento! |

Of Rain and a complicated summer
|
My last post was in early May... but that doesn't mean I haven't ridden since. However, I certainly haven't been able to do everything I wanted to. I've had some personal issues, mostly related to my father's health and an incredibly busy time at work, but, still, I managed to ride. Shorter rides, some nicer ones... both bikes were not left sitting and covered in the garage. Of course riding when I had time, didn't leave me much choice... so I haven't had always the best weather: yes, I could check the weather forecast, but even if a friend wants to gift me with a nice barometer, I did ride whenever I could. And needed to. When you need it, when you truly need it, it isn't that shower stopping you. Right? So I had few rides on the nearby heights (Monte Grappa and Altopiano di Asiago), I had a night ride with the club, I also enjoyed longer rides. Below some random pictures of this 'complicated summer'... but is I type this in, I also had a longer ride, 500km of twisties. And rain, of course... but let me leave this for the next post. |

Winter, son, garage, rides, landscapes, meetings...
|
Where have I been? It's been a while since my last post! Well busy as usual, and since my mate Tony told me that the frequency of my posts has dropped dramatically (thank you Tony!), here I am, telling you all about how I kept myself busy. First of all, I am helping my son with the upgrades to his Derbi 50cc bike. And we even rode together... If only I, at his age, had had an experienced motorcyclist takin me around and teaching me the tricks of the trade! So I rode with him, and since a 937cc 4 cylinders 4 strokes bike is a little faster and more powerful than a 50cc 2 stroke one, I enjoyed myself popping wheelies, causing backfires and other fun but very childish games (I refuse to grow up!) Of course I also rode the Benelli 49 America! The first day the 2025 I was riding it, and also fews days later, for the very first motorcycle meeting. The 937 was fine, until I decided to upgrade the poor light bulb with a LED one. Easy job? Not in my case, as the headlamp assembly broke down: the inner part, the one held by the two adjustable mounting, to tune the inclination of the headlight, decided to set itself free. I had to score a new (used) headlight assembly! And since I was on it, I upgraded my posers blue led lights, this so fucking 'tuning' thing, and replaced also the instruments backlights, as the old ones left it in total darkness or about. Enjoy some photos, see the upgrades, the broken bits, the landscapes, the bikes... aiming for a 2025 full of curves! |

Had some really intense days recently. Job and personal issues kept me very very busy. Yesterday a friend texted me. I didn't reply... Friend texted again saying I am probably not relaxing, and that I must have been busy working for not replying... Sure! So, when I stopped, I replied with these two photos, taken in this road you simply cannot go slow! |

Bikes in the Mist
|
Spring at last! So, it's warm here in the hills where I live. Temperature goes easily above +15°C, up to almost 20°C in the day, maybe a little more when the sun shines! Maybe someone says it's too early for this warmth, it's all about the the global warming, we must blame people like me burning high octanes gasoline on prehistoric bikes (with carburetors, maybe two strokes... I must be EVIL)... so I guessed up there in the mountains there would be no snow at all. So I jumped into the saddle and there I rode, with some emphasis, towards the twisties, enjoying the loud exhaust tone. But up there, over 1500mt, there was a hell load of snow... and, worst of all, I couldn't even see it because of the FOG! And, of course, it was all but warm: probably my evil mobility behavior hasn't killed the whole planet yet! |
Primavera finalmente! |

November... Sun!
|
A slower pace, for once! Yesterday I took the 937 out for a ride: no pressure, no need for speed, just riding (and a couple of well placed wheelies!)... changing route, up that tight and twisty one... and then more... let's see where it takes me. Not a road you can speed up with a sport bike (but with something lighter like the Benelli TRK 702 X I tested here few weeks ago... wow... what a blast!)... a smooth ride in this autumn, in this kaleidoscope of colors... in this bright Sun of November! |

1968 Benelli 49 America project update
|
My '68 Benelli 49 America project runs great. The bike is in perfect running order, and it is really funny to ride. I let my son ride it... he is 1 year younger than moped age, so I made him learning how to use the clutch and gearbox in the driveway: I am spawning a brand new motorcycle rider! I am also working on the details, scoring little spare parts and missing or ruined decals, cleaning everything, make it shine, also to make it of historic value, listing it in the national historical register. Here some fresh pictures: |
Road. (amazing photos included!)
|
An afternoon away from office and mobile phone. Just me, the bike and the road. Mountains. Four passes. Corners. I cross a fellow rider, we wave each other, but that waving means more than the usual... almost like we've been friends forever. Summer fighting back the autumn. The autumn trying to be in control. Amazing. |
Stupendo. |

Back on track

Time flies. And the last time I rode on a racetrack is lost in the past. It happened 9 years ago. The reasons that kept me away from racing are complicated, hard to explain. And rather personal. Let's just call it 'life'. But I never gave up riding, and I definitely didn't sell my soul to a more touring oriented style: I still love speed, and I still ride like I stole it... just with all that experience gathered on track, in life, surviving the jungle you've to face when riding a motorcycle nowadays. Not only I never gave up riding, I also have always been an active element of my Motoclub, POMPONE: it was the club for the trackdays, the races, the speed... but it still is the motoclub for a wide galaxy of events of any kind, from the normal gatherings to museums/factories visits, from test rides to... well.. racetrack! Yes! We still go to racetrack, and we still call ourselves "Squadra Corse". Thanks to somebody we know and a wide netword of contacts built in many years of motoclub activity, we ended to a small track used for practicing (Axel Bassani, WSBK racer do train in there!), for safety training, and for any activity concerning cars and motorcycles of any size: Pista Alle Cave. But we weren't just a bunch of riders (about 20) with our own bikes (some street legals, some racers, some vintage... some seeing racetrack for the first time ever)... but we had some OHVALE to test... thanks to the legendary Caio Pellizzon, former test rider at Aprilia, the man that for 25 years developed most of the sport range -RSV Mille included- of the italian brand. So, all of a sudden, after a couple of laps with my 937, just for the sake of it... I was training myself to what I used to do almost on a weekly basis: lanes, braking points, cornering and massive knee sliding! What about these Ohvale? PURE fun. The cheapest way to do racetrack (safer & cheaper bikes, cheaper speed, cheaper racetrack, cheaper maintenance). And the level of fun is... impossible to quote! In a late September day, with sun and temperatures usually belonging to a way warmer time of the year, all of us -for few bucks- rode a lot, enjoying unlimited sessions and laps, having fun, racing each others in safety and finding out -once again- the essence that connects us all and that we use to call motorcycling. |
9 anni or sono, credo. |

I just love NEW TARMAC!
|
What a surprise! I find put a couple of hours to let myself go, riding recklessly on my local roads (read here)... and what happens? SOMEBODY DID SOME NEW TARMAC! Ok, non on all the loop, and on a road... it was done here and there, alternatively... without any apparent logic... at a point there was the old tarmac, but the upcoming hairpin -and only that one- was blessed with new black grippy surface. A tarmac so new that the while lines are still... very white! What can I say? The best corners got new surface... and the whole ride has been even funnier! 160km, two hours or about... boot sliders gone, knee sliders had their share of fun as well. WOW! |
WOW! |

So close.
|
In my previous post I babbled about the absence of longer rides, rediscovering the fun of the shorter ones, not far from home. . Well, there's a 'not far from home' dimension, which is not so close, but neither that far... something I knew, but that I needed to checked out again. Look, the other day I drove a mountain road, by car, to my hiking starting point (7hs of walk, by the way, amazing!)... and while driving I found myself thinking: fuck... this is a damn great road for motorcycles! Sure, I knew it already, but my endless quest for passes after passes, made me forget about it! Simply a road connecting Longarone (famous place for the Vajont Dam) to Passo Staulanza, one of the passes I usually use to access higher ones. But, drawing a smaller circle, taking this road as a fun road instead of a connecting road, I had the pleasure to ride all the way to Passo Duran, then Forcella Aurine and the following Passo Cereda (sadly wet!): this turned out to be a damn great and fast road to ride. So... why searching any further? With less than 250 km loop, maybe 100 km radius from home, I had a blast: I went uphill, rode downhill, had fellow riders following me, had great corners, dragged pegs, sliders and other illegal things... so what??? Just sorry for that summer thunderstorm making Cereda Pass a little slower (but still amazing!)... but being actually so close to home... why not? I can attack it tomorrow or day after tomorrow! The good thing? These roads aren't those main tourist roads. Not any famous Giau or Falzarero passes... hence... basically less traffic and NO CONTROLS! Just pure speed and 100% fun! The sequence: Passo Staulanza (done on one way and back) Passo Duran Passo Cereda Passo Croce d'Aune. |
Posso ritornarci domani o dopodomani! Il lato veramente positivo? Non sono strade tipicamente turistiche. Nessuno famosissimo Giau o Falzarego... quindi meno traffico epraticamente nessuno controllo... solo velocità pura e divertimento al 100%! La sequenza: Passo Staulanza (fatto tutto e ritorno) Passo Duran Passo Cereda Passo Croce d'Aune. |
