550 km. 7 mountain passes. 9+ hours carving corners. New tyres? Definitely broken in.

Finally, a ride just the way I like it — perfect for breaking in (and testing) the new tyres!
550 km riding through:
Manghen Pass
Lavazè Pass... fast, fun...
Rombo Pass (Timmelsjoch)... all the way to the top, a few kilometres into Austria and back
Giovo Pass (Jaufenpass). What a blast. Pace (damn fast)
Pennes Pass (Penser Joch). Insane. Awesome sweeping bends (wickedly fast)
Costalunga Pass
Rolle Pass

The original plan was to ride San Pellegrino and then Valles before heading to Rolle... but the strong winds that picked up over the Dolomites in the afternoon forced many ski lifts and several roads to close, the latter because of trees brought down by the gusts: San Pellegrino closed, Manghen closed (luckily I'd ridden it in the morning... and I'd even considered doing it again instead of San Pellegrino... luckily I trusted my instincts and headed for Rolle).

The wind was already strong at the top of Pennes: I was struggling to keep the bike upright, and through the bends it was a constant battle. Sudden gusts were pushing vehicles from one lane to the other... it was quite an ordeal.

The news reports mentioned strong winds at altitude... with gusts reaching 113 km/h on Pordoi Pass, while cable cars such as the Rosetta were being hit by gusts of up to 120 km/h.
And all this while I was riding fast towards Rolle and then home... with huge, dark, threatening clouds overhead (at 5:30pm I had to switch to transparent visor!). But luck was on my side: the storm broke loose just after I'd closed the garage door behind me! Yeah!

And the Sportec 01s? They work. Less nervous than the M9RRs, but stable and confidence-inspiring. I got the rear right to the edge almost immediately; the front... nowhere near as much as with the M9RRs.
In short:
M9RR → input → quick turn-in → you immediately feel the bike lean → you use a lot of the front tyre's shoulder.
SPORTEC 01 → input → more progressive turn-in → keeps giving you support without that “falling into the corner” feeling → the rear reaches the edge while there's still plenty of front tyre left.

I love these comparisons. And I love having done 550 km of corners!
Passo Giovo (Jaufenpass). Che divertimento. Ritmo (dannatamente veloce)
Passo Pennes (Penser Joch). Pazzesco. Curvoni da urlo (maledettamente veloce)
Passo Costalunga
Passo Rolle

In sintesi:

Adoro questi confronti. E adoro aver fatto 550 km di pieghe!
