Around the mid summer time, when days are longer and weather shines... what should a rider do? Ride? No, Ladies and Gentlemen, somebody goes for some workshop! I recently had the service done, ok, but I had to go for those two periodic works that the mighty 937 needs: Valve Tappet Clearance and Carburetors Balance! Carburetors Balance was much needed, really. Now the bike runs smoother. Valve Tappet Clearance was ok, but the valve cover gasket kit (one main big gasket, plus the 4 ones around the spark plugs, plus those 8 ones on the top, with 8 screws) needed replacement. Simple? Yes, but the part wasn't that easy or quick to arrive... and this delayed the whole thing. Right now I can ride the bike, but I've to finish the work when those 8x parts are available (I put back the old onese, but the new ones finally arrived as I type this). The good news is that the head of this bike still is in a very very great shape... not bad for a 27 year old bike with way more than 100,000 Km ridden hard! |
Andare in moto? No, Signore e Signori, qualcuno decide di fare manutenzione! |

Test riding all those bikes!
|
I bought everything to service my bike. I also have a spare set of tires ready to go. But I had not time to work on it and a very little time to ride it! Most of my rides have been... riding to ride! Yes! We have had a lot of test rides at the motoclub lately, and we have many more in upcoming weeks. So my Suzuki has been the vehicle taking me to other bikes, interesting things of a different kind. And I -of course- felt in love for many of them. Maybe I'm in love for all of them!
Here's some photos: |
Ecco alcune foto: |

Here we go again!
|
One month ago I wrote about spring being in the air, babbling and yapping about hearing engine noises all around where I live. Well, now the spring is no more in the air, it arrived loud and clear... and during the past weekend I feel safe claiming that anybody owning a motorcycle was out there riding! Could I have missed the chance? NOWAY! |

Riding season is back!
|
The riding season is back... but it never really went away... it hasn't been a very cold winter after all. But now we are having these warm days, really, spring is in the air, and you can ear the sound of motorcycles all around (at least where I live, up in the hills). So yesterday I added the sound of the 937, to that concert! I'll be doing some maintenance (less than 1000km to next service), will balance the carbs and few more tweaks before jumping into some serious riding! |

Autumn! Again!
| Winter is approaching, ain't the best season for us riders... but meanwhile autumn is offering, once again, a wonderful landscape with amazing colors. |

Playmate of the Month!
|
Due to my chronic lack of time, it gets harder and harder to find a good day for a proper ride. So a couple o days ago I took three hours off work, hopped on the 937 and off I rode. My true advantage is living by the mountain, so I have close to zero transfer time to reach the true fun, the corners, the twisty roads. One of the closer sequences of corners is the climb up to Monte Grappa, about 1700 mt, some 80-90km all the way up and back down. I needed it, I needed the speed, feel the engine, the fun, but the truth lies somewhere in the middle... as what I really wanted is taking some pictures... I wanted my bike being the Playmate of the Month for the second year in a row! No, there's no porn involved (well, ain't true, bikes are porn!)... it's just there are several Suzuki RF riders around the world (all versions), and we all gather in a Facebook group, exchanging info, suggestions, experiences. And in there we have our main sorcerer, our master, Bob, a guys that helps out a lot, providing a wide range of RF wisdom... and, among the rest, he takes care of our yearly calendar, a print with 12 bikes off our club, one per month. The calendar, a very well done print, with description and history of every single bike featured, is for sale within the club... and the cash raise goes for charity. This Bob doesn't ride for fun only, he also does something great at this Blood Bikes Wales: At Blood Bikes Wales they gear up to provide a completely free courier service for the National Health Service, relying solely on volunteers and donations to offer this service. Basically these folks do ride all around to carry what's needed, such as blood samples, plasma, donated human milk, documents and other items all over Wales. They do it on motorcycles, any weather, any day. FOR FREE. And me, far away from their country... what else can I do but riding, having fun, taking some photos trying to make that calendar even more valuable? My bike was featured on 2021 calendar (the month was July)... so why not trying to have her being Playmate of a Month also in 2022? Some photos... also of the beautiful landscape that surrounded me while twisting that throttle and working hard on the gears! |

Speed, speeding, getting caught, loud exhaust pride
|
So, another ride, another adventure. I had a route plan, but after having ridden half of it I changed my mind (because of traffic and timing) and detoured elsewhere. But anyway, I managed to ride across 6 passes having my great share of fun, in a dry day over the beautiful Dolomites. Passes sequence has been: Manghen (2,047 mt /6,716 ft) followed by Lavazé ( 1,808 mt / 5,931 ft). This is the point I detoured, going to attack the Costalunga (1,745 mt / 5,725 ft), followed by the mad speed of the San Pellegrino (1,918 mt / 6,292 ft). To close the loop, the mandatory Valles (2,032 mt / 6,666 ft) and the mighty Rolle (1,989 mt / 6,525 ft). Highlights of the ride? Oh, I lost a knee slider somewhere on the Lavazé... and got caught by police on the first one, the Manghen. I was cruising with some traffic, well, 2 or 3 cars and a van; being it a narrow twisty road, I passed the cars but couldn't overtake the van, as its shape didn't offer me enough safe view of what's ahead of it... so I just waited. At a point, in a little wider section, the van moved sideways to let me go... and off I went, full throttle, high revving... well, just the way it must be. Sadly, immediately afterwards, cops were waiting for me! They gently invited me to stop... and when I tried to explain I just overtook a vehicle in a safe point, they replied: “Yes, but we HEARD you!”... and probably I didn't really hide how proud I felt! Nevertheless but they were pretty fun and smart: they didn't care to rip my license or to inspect my not so legal motorcycle. They claimed they were there just for us to speed down, just to raise some awareness, just to save lives. Had a nice chat with the blokes. Of course they cannot know if the next upcoming bike is ridden by an expert rider or a newbie... so they must stop whoever not really cruising like in a moped, but I really loved their safety oriented attitude, far from the usual "money sucking" one. Cops did me a small ticket, just claiming my riding wasn't compatible with the kind of the road... without mentioning the other dozen of law article I probably had broken. A fun fact: while they were doing me, come cyclist rode by... and they shouted something like “hey agents, are we speeding?” and the cops: “yeah! You must slow down NOW!” I continued riding that pass in a less extreme way, I learned a lesson. A lesson I later forgot on the Lavazé... completely erasing any trace of it in a wonderfully clear and empty San Pellegrino! |

Something spiritual (99% photos oriented post)
|
Yesterday, as suggested in my previous post, I went for a serious ride I did what I call the 'Trinity', 550km, that's Tonale Pass (1,883 m / 6,178 ft), Gavia Pass (2,621 m / 8,599 ft) and Stelvio Pass (2,757 m /9,045 ft). I love that loop, it was since 2017 or 2018 that I didn't do this classic route. Tonale was fast, very fast. Gavia is like a temple to me, very spiritual... with that Lago Nero (=Black Lake), the place I want my ashes to be thrown to the wind, one day. And Stelvio, again from south to north, fast as hell climbing up, twisty and with an incredible amount of hairpins riding down. A lot of riding for three passes... with a lot of annoying traffic to get there (and back). But the passes were clean, dry, and with not many vehicles around. So I could have some serious fun, some serious speed. And let my inner spirituality free, something I needed to. Enjoy the photos... I'll try to caption them all. |
