| I told you we often plan the next meeting while we are still riding one. Well, the truth is we planned this the day before it happened, but surely we talked about it during the previous one! |

Still meeting and still pissing.
| Every now and then me and the other well wasted life sharing a well wasted riding life along with me, well wasting a lot of fuel, decide to meet somewhere in between our locations (north and south of the Alps), up there, at the peak of a pass, just to say hi, take a piss, maybe a snack and ride back to the respective homes. To make a long story short, it's been ages we spend a whole riding day alone, crunching hundred of back twisty roads kilometers, just to meet somewhere, spend less than one hour together (pissing privacy included) and then say bye and split again. Agreeing that this might sound pointless, but -to us- it still is a great idea with a superb excuse (the piss? you might read HERE for the supreme version of it!) to have a great ride and see a mate. I am not yet sure, despite all those years spent doing this shit, if the meeting is the excuse to ride or if the ride is the excuse for a meet. Never mind. Sure it is that after few hundreds of kilometers at high pace, the vibration of the engine CERTAINLY causes a desperate need for piss. And pissing up there, well over 2000mt height, is a superb experience... as once a great friend of mine (Jari) said in the process: "I had never pissed with such a beautiful view" (Manghen Pass, 2003). We did it a lot of times, but we aren't tired yet, and after each of these events (often also while they're still on) we talk about the next one. The next meet. The next piss. The latest one saw me clocking 605km on the following passes (all in a superb dry weather day!):

TWO DAYS (Day #2)
| Well, there's nothing better to have a 600km mountain road ride the day after a 530km one. Isn't it? So here we go. This time I went for the classical stuff, what I call the TRILOGY: Tonale, Gavia and Stelvio. It's no secret that when I die (we all do!) I'd love to have my ashes spread around the upper southern side of the wonderful Gavia Pass. Why? Well... the following pics shall give you a hint or two. So, 602,7km ridden. 6 Passes and some wonderful roads, even out of the passes! |

TWO DAYS (Day #1)
| Recently I wrote it is pretty hard to cut my own time to ride the way I want, with the attitude I want and running the distances I want. So whenever, in a summer week, I can cut TWO whole days for riding, well, that's worth a celebration! Trumpets and horns! Wow! To be honest both my days were free from 11am, but I didn't need to be home at any give time (even if I managed to do it between 8pm and 9pm both days... wow, in time for dinner!), and that was perfect. Moreover at 11am you have an idea about the weather of the day, while at 7am it's all so unpredictable. The great thing was indeed about weather. The forecast guy was basically telling me "Listen mate, rather go to a pub for few pints, or update your damn blog complaining about thunderstorms, or simply pick the bicycle and ride downtown". OK, forecast dude, you never guess it right... so... shut up, leathers on, I go! On day one I found some wet roads (mostly on the last part before arriving home), but I clocked some 531,2 DRY km across four great passes! It was basically my first REAL ride of the season (ops, am I late?)... needed to refresh my skill.... and the first and third passes were what I needed to let the old lady rev higher! |

Speed limits?
| Be safe out there on the road. That's what mommy says, isn't it? But we don't always respect speed limits. Then, you catch a mountain back road that FORCES you to give the finger to those poor speed road signals... |

Both sides
| All of a sudden I decide to halt my working day. 4pm, that's enough... and the sun shines. I look out of the window and I decide to go up there: | Ad un tratto decido di tagliare corto la giornata lavorativa.

Ridin on!
|
After the previous wet ride, I took the change to keep on riding. I mean, after I resurrected it, why letting it die again? So I had a quick ride in my surrounding area, and then I took a Sunday noon and left pretty late. OK, I watched Formula 1 on TV, and after that I rode away, with the idea of attacking not less than four passes, that in the end turned out to be six, arriving quite late, in total darkness (I knew it could happen so I carried the clear visor on the luggage!). No hurry, no schedule, just riding till I liked it. Some wet roads, but nothing tragic! And I enjoyed the following passes (344km): |

Long time. And I'm wet! But I am back.
| The time between this post and the previous is the time I've been OFF riding. Enough said? Life's weird. Things happening all the time, you're living today and all of a sudden 3 or 4 months are gone. Add that I became such a complex rider: I don't ride 30 minutes. I don't commute. I don't ride to the grocery or local pub. No more. Either I have time for not less than 200km (I prefer 300 to 600), all of them across passess and twisties, or I don't ride. Add the weather, add the season, add the free time, add the fact that with time (and age: aka family, job, etc...) it's getting harder and harder to find "that perfect day" (and when you find it, it rains...). Hence my total lack of riding I miss the track day life (no track bike in my garage right now, hope to fix this soon!): you book and pay; you kind of "book your season" ahead, so you know with months of advance when you're busy riding... so it gets easier to plan your life. Street riding? For a reason of the other it always end in the "Maybe tomorrow" thing... and, fuck it, tomorrow never comes. So, one week ago I finally found the perfect day. Or about. First real ride of the season. 337km on 8 passes. Ain't bad for a beginning. But I also had rain. A lot of rain. I got few drops on last pass or two, but AFTER it I decided to cut it short (my plan was for 4 passes more) as the sky was getting way too dark. And the you could hear the roar. Rain started. Few drops again. I didn't even stop for rain gear... and all of a sudden the few drops became Colossal Rain. I was WET in no time. Soaked doesn't even come close to the condition I was. But that wasn't it all! Wind was massive, visibility close to zero (and I had dark visor!!). Cars were stopping road side, hazard lights on... with me riding by. Any tunnel was a gift... but any bridge or overpass I had to go under was exactly like blind riding into a waterfall! Road was a river. E così iniziò a piovere. Ancora poche gocce. Ero completamente bagnato in tempo zero. |
