WE ARE BACK.

"Culo Di Titanio". Titanium Ass. The name of this blog I forged to better describe what used to be my riding style: doing as many km, across as many mountain passes, with the minimum amount of breaks in one day (or afternoon). No restaurant stops. No coffee breaks. No glorious stops on top of each conquered pass. Just full riding time. That was the idea that lead us to do the famous Culo Di Titanio ride, that in 2009 saw us doing 1110km in about 19 hours across 30 passes avoiding carefully any speedway, main road, motorway. If you check my blog from now back to 2010, you won't see much of this. It's mostly racetrack riding and garage sessions to get ready for next track day. We kinda lost the feeling to ride on the street. On my previous entry I already showed we were back on the street, or better, back home. Now we pushed it a little and resumed our way to mean riding. So few days ago we decided to go. Hopping on the saddles quite late in the morning (say 10:30 or 11:00) we left with the sole purpose of riding. We had couple of stops on the first couple of passes, as we weren't firing on all the cylinders yet. But then we went on. Our riding mode activated and we did some 400km across 9 passes, like that... just for the sake of it, without plan, without much thinking. And we were back by dinner time, relaxed and not tired at all.
We're back!
Solo tempo pieno in sella.
Siamo tornati!

Back home.

What do you call home? A place you feel great. A place you're happy to go, and sad when you leave. A place you miss when you're not there. A place that gives you a nice feeling, where you relax. A place you simply feel home. To take the chance to meet my dear riding mate, the one who shared with me the legendary "Culo di Titanio", probably my best friend and the guy that feels and shares the way I ride, we decided to approach from different direction (me south, he north) and meet up on top of Gavia Pass. This time we missed the math, and met between Stelvio and Gavia (plan was to ride on until meeting on the road), but then we immediately returned on the top of the latter, and spent a relaxing noon up there, before parting ways and return, each one, from the place we came from (home?). I love Gavia Pass. The view is amazing. The road is tricky and it has a fantastic feeling. It simply triggers me. That day I clocked 500km. Long time I didn't ride that long on the street, but it felt simply fantastic. Enjoy pics. Cosa chiami "casa"?

A Race To Forget / Una Gara Da Dimenticare

Ok, it was damn hot. And in Rijeka it's either windy, or simply hell hot. Not that I case usually. I perform very well in hot weather. But for some reasons this wasn't the time. OK, the night before I didn't sleep. I was wide awake at 4am... for no reason at all. I arrived at the racetrack feeling tired. After one session I felt very tired. After qualifying, at half a second slower than my usual best, I felt like I wanted to pack and leave. I joined the race start, already thinking that after the race I'd stop my track day to go home. Leather was kinda like suffocating me. Legs weren't holding me. I did 3 laps then aborted the race, packed and left. In the whole track day I did 18 laps! Driving the 4 hours back home has been a pain in the arse. Unloading all the stuff at home, getting the bike off the trailer, everything was too hard. So I checked my temperature: 39,5°C. I was sick like a dog. Sweating but feeling cold. I could feel ok only in bed. So, that's it, I raced with this damn flu. I raced in flu mode. And that costed me two days of rest afterward (not that I am feeling great yet). In the end, with that temperature, the flu, with a slippery track (everybody were experiencing slides), doing half a second slower than my best, well, that is still a target reached. But also a race to forget! Ok, faceva molto caldo. Ho caricato tutto e me ne sono andato. Stavo bene solo a letto.

Bla Bla Bla

Long time no update.
Well. No more races since last one early June.
Been busy, been abroad, been working.
One shit happened, like all shits always happen: dropped the mighty 937 on the ground, from side stand.

Ouch

This was an ancient damage/Questo era vecchio

My rearsets are swedish, brand is RAASK.
Despite being a lifetime I originally got 'em, and despite being the RF way out of production, this company could still provide me spare parts. So I replaced gear lever, brake lever and one peg as well. Now it is almost like new! Installation has been done with the priceless help of my 2,5 years old son :-)
Ora è tutto come nuovo!

Now in less than one week I've another race. Rijeka. I am not doing that great this year, but still enjoying it properly!
In the meantime I had some street rides with the 937. Some mountain riding, including my visit to a local MC meeting. Weather at start were set on "post hail" mode. The rest was pure colossal rain. I made it there with my leather completely wet. Luckily it's summer (even if up there it wasn't warm at all!)
Today I got a great news. A friend of mine, who's doing his version of the world tour on a Moto Guzzi Stelvio, announced that her may arrive back to Stelvio Pass by the end of the month. That makes a great chance to meet him up there, and welcome him back. If you haven't done yet, have fun surfing his blog and his amazing pictures. His tales are a blast, and the shit he has been through are pure madness!

Next update after the race!

Season 2013: Race 2

Second race. What an event. Over 45 racers joined in! That was way beyond the track homologation, so for the first time we had to split it in two races: 600cc and 1000cc. That was pure fun. I didn't do well, placed some 14th.... but the duel on track was amazing. Actually I've been racing against a guy that was then eliminated: he placed in front of me, but he has a 750cc. Fun that he won me by engine, while I was always overtaking him on the corners. We had again this 125cc Aprilia for rental. I rented it for two sessions. Also there was a father with his teenager son. As a present he bought the kid some sessions on the bike. First time on a real bike, on a real track. I was amazed to see how happy the kid was, guess he got the best present of his life. Wish I had that too back then!! Weather has been perfect. Not too hot, not too windy, simply perfect. Despite my poor physical condition (been sick all the week before, and then had back pain) I enjoyed it all. My bike had new unknown tires (I moved from Bridgestone to Dunlop) and also longer gearing... so it was about learning it all again. Lap time didn't improve, track wasn't performing, but it was a blast. Seconda gara. Che evento! Circa 45 iscritti in gara!

Season 2013: Race 1

Quest'anno ho iniziato tardi. Quinto posto garantito, 15 punti in classifica. This year I started late. And it's going to be a season with not much events. But we always try to make them great. Just for a start: THE COLOSSAL RAIN. Rain started at 7am. Then it stopped and track started to dry out. I switch to a new set of Dunlop 211 slick.... I get myself read for the race...but it start to rain again. And a lot. No time or will to switch to rains. I set out a random lap time, just to be in the grid (and not bad after all, I am 9th in the whole group that mixes 600 and 1000, even if we have different classification). Then I think about the trophy strategy. Rain causes people to call themselves out. Out of the 20 bikes qualified, we are few left. I am the sole with slicks, and we are 5 riders in 600 class. I cannot be any better than 5th, so I start and retire at first lap. So I get my 5th place, and 15 points in the overall classification.

From 3pm sun is out and in Rijeka it dries out well, in about 10 minutes. I finally go out on slicks to have some fun.

Addiction For Destruction sticker on tail!
With our club and along with Gabrielli Racing, there's an opportunity: rent a 125GP two stroker. I cannot resist and set my mind back to teenage times, when I had the stroker (a moped), and I have some absolutely great fun for those five laps (you can rent hours ranges). It has about 2000rpm of engine efficiency. To really go you need to think ahead of the corners, set right great and must really do perfect lines. If you do something wrong, with a 1000cc you've the power getting out out of the corner. Here you have nothing. Brake points? At 50mt the corner still looks damn far away and if you brake where you do on a 600 or 1000, you end ... stopping and put feet down.. A great experience! The idea is bringing people to track. In a time where everybody back off from trying out new business experiences, we believe in it and do something new! It's something you cannot miss. Doesn't matter if you are a newbie, an enthusiast and even an experienced rider. I'll be back on that thing!!!!

MITICI!
Having there 5 Ducati Panigale boosted the event in terms of demo rides. Thanks a lot to Ducati Trieste and Barry Rivellini.
During the rain, it was amazing to listen to the funny tales told by Marco Lucchinelli and Fausto Ricci. Great people!
